Tenterden & District Museum

Easily the best place to start your visit to Tenterden and the Weald, Tenterden & District Museum is accessible to everyone. Dip into more than a thousand years of local history - from stone age tools to a 1960s home - and discover more about this fascinating town’s development from mediaeval Cinque Port to 19th century rural market centre.

Our extensive collection is housed across six rooms over two floors.  We offer an audio guide and a stair lift and are always happy to provide personal and group guided tours.  As well as our regular and special exhibitions, we also offer a range of games and fun activities suitable for all ages.  In our gift shop, you will find a range of exclusive souvenirs and artwork created by local artists.  We also have a well-stocked bookshop, selling local history titles and fiction by local authors.

Opened in 1976, and always run entirely by volunteers, Tenterden Museum is housed in an attractive weatherboarded building originally built in the late 1800s. It is situated in a quiet car park, just a stone’s throw from the High Street and there are also coach parking spaces and public WCs nearby.
