English Tourism Week

We're "Here for Tourism" because we believe it will be a massive, much-needed boost for the public and the economy alike! 

An annual celebration of English tourism, English Tourism Week takes place from 22-31 May to highlight the importance, value and vast contribution the sector makes to the UK economy.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic had a devastating impact on tourism in the UK and worldwide, continuing to affect both the domestic and international sectors, in 2019, tourism was one of England’s largest and most valuable industries.

You can play your part by getting out and about in Ashford and Tenterden. Find out about events, things to do and places to stay in Ashford and Tenterden – we hope to see you soon!

As part of English Tourism Week 2021 we want to introduce to you some of our new Ashford and Tenterden Tourism Association members:

Oxney Organic Estate

First up we have Oxney Organic Estate, a vineyard with holiday accommodation near Tenterden.  Visit the vineyard for tours and tastings (every Saturday April-October) and make your experience extra special by staying in the Oxney Barns, Shepherds huts or Vineyard House.

St Mildred's Church, Tenterden

Three churches make up the Church of England presence in Tenterden, St Michael’s and Smallhythe. St Mildred’s Church, St Michael’s and All Angels Church, and St John’s the Baptist Church.

St Mildred’s Church, Tenterden is a stunning medieval church whose imposing tower dominates the town’s skyline. Most of the building dates back to the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. Open daily 9am – 4pm (contact us about St John’s) all visitors are welcome.

Cowshed Workshop

Located on a small farm on the rural back lanes of Tenterden, Cowshed Workshop offer a great selection of creative courses by working with local artists and makers to bring you years of expertise and experience. Courses are designed for all, whether this is your first time holding a needle or paintbrush, right through to learning how to sculpt with willow, design ceramics or weave a basket. It’s a really welcoming atmosphere with small groups, so great to attend with friends or on your own. Check out their courses and see for yourself.

Wine Tours of Kent

Wine Tours of Kent will introduce you to award-winning English wines with guided tours, tutored wine tastings and even a country pub lunch.

You or your group can be collected from your chosen location in Kent or East Sussex, then whisked away on a full day’s guided tour and wine tastings around the very best of Kent’s vineyards.  Whether you’d like to learn more about wine, or simply spend your day tasting amongst the vines, Wine Tours of England will individually tailor their tour to suit you.

Hukins Hops

Brabourne Vineyard

Brabourne Vineyard is a small, family run vineyard sitting at the foot of the North Downs. They focus on premium wines, growing just Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and producing high end English Sparkling Wine and some still Rose. Visitors can expect a truly personal experience tailored to their own interests.
