Clean at Smallhythe

Clean follows the stories of seven women living in the Laundry Hill area of Brighton from the 1870s to the 2020s. Through overlapping monologues, that echo and contrast each other, it explores themes of mental illness, sexuality, suffrage, domestic violence, motherhood and the sistership of working women. It highlights how much has changed - and how much hasn’t - in 150 years.
Sussex-based Different Theatre create intimate, female centric shows with a strong lyricism and theatricality. Previous shows include Metamorphosis, Sary and So You Say, all received with critical acclaim. According to Fringe Review, "Sam Chittenden and Different Theatre Productions spell magical story-telling and a poetic serenity in the face of the dark.”
