Get fit and active in the Garden of England

Whether you want to recharge, feel fitter, or simply enjoy your sport, you can do it in Ashford and Tenterden. Prepare to encounter prime walking, cycling, golf, fishing, and sports centres.  Or soak in a spa or jump out of a plane.

Go walking here and you'll stride across Downs, meander through the Weald of Kent, and drink in tranquil, rolling landscapes scattered with oast houses and farms.  The multi-day challenge of a National Trail, a day hike, or a heritage-rich village stroll - your boots can take in it all.

Conningbrook Lakes is Ashford's new Country Park boasting three lakes, walking and cycling. There will also be water-based activities on offer through various clubs so now's your chance to sign up for some canoeing or kayaking.

Cycling National Cycle Route 18 sees you sweeping through gentle hills and wooded valleys from Wye via cosmopolitan Ashford to historic Tenterden, then on to Royal Tunbridge Wells.  Or pedal south on trails that draw you towards Romney Marsh, and extraordinary, big-sky views.

Or if you fancy cycling with a difference, why not try an electric bike?  Either hire one or join one of our guided tours.

Fishing draws many.  No wonder; pick up a rod here and you'll be casting lines into the River Rother, Royal Military Canal, and countless lakes, pits and pools packed with pike, roach, tench and trout.

The golf is great too.  Tee off on one of Britain's best - Nick Faldo-designed Chart Hills Golf Club - or at a tempting array of 18 and 9 hole courses; here settings range from testing fairways and heritage elegance to friendly clubs and no-fuss, turn-up-and-play.  Many offer soothing spa facilities too.

Your options for leisure time are endless.  A Europe-class athletics stadium; superb gym and sports facilities; irresistible swimming pools overflowing with fabulous features - from raging rivers and monsoon rains, to fountains and flumes.  Or chill out in steam rooms, jacuzzis and saunas.

Ashford and Tenterden also boast a leading children's activity camp; excellent skydiving and gliding airfields; an inspiring eco-centre and bowling lanes and multiplex cinemas just waiting to deliver memorable family fun.
