Morning
Start the day with a visit to the charming country town of Tenterden.
Tenterden is a beautiful rural market town located in the heart of the weald, an area of ancient forest and outstanding natural beauty that stretches across Kent. Surrounded by gorgeous countryside Tenterden boasts a vibrant high street with lots of independent businesses. Recognised for its picturesque tree-lined heritage high street, in Tenterden you'll find cobbled alleys and timber framed buildings as well as the beautiful medieval church of St. Mildred's and a splendid Georgian Town Hall.
Travel through the beautiful countryside on a steam train. Start your journey in the charming town of Tenterden and stop at stations at Rolvenden, Wittersham and Northiam en-route to Bodiam in East Sussex, where the line terminates in the shadow of the magnificent Bodiam Castle.
Dip into 1,000 years of history, architecture, and trends over the centuries. Opened in 1976, the museum is housed in an attractive weatherboard building originally built in 1870. The exhibits show the history of Tenterden and the Cinque Ports, reflecting the rich history of the area. Artefacts range from a 1500 BC flint axe head to a Victorian Kitchen.
Chapel Down Winery is home to England’s leading wine producer. Producing sparkling and still wines from grapes grown across the South East of England, visitors to the Winery can enjoy a guided tour to taste and learn about how the grape vines are grown. The winery experience also offers a range of fantastic experiences including refreshments, interactive masterclasses and accommodation in the local area. For those who have always dreamed of owning their own vineyard, the Vine Leasing scheme could be the answer and makes a great gift.
Afternoon
Only a 20-minute drive east and you’ll find Ashford, the perfect destination for shopping.
With around 80 stores selling favourite brands at up to 60% less you will probably want to make an afternoon of it. Iconic brands, high street favourites and athletics labels are just some of the finds here, along with cafes, restaurants and a children's play area. And there's no need to hurry as stores stay open late.
Only 5 minutes from the Ashford Designer Outlet is County Square shopping centre. Locate in the town centre, County Square has over fifty stores. If that's not enough, next door is Park Mall shopping centre - home to some quirky independent local brands.
