Getting Around

Ashford - Best Placed

Ashford and Tenterden are perfectly placed.  London in 38 minutes, Paris and Brussels are close enough for a continental day out.  The rest of Kent is within easy reach too.

Getting to Ashford and Tenterden is a speedy affair.  superb motorway connections see the M20 sweep from the M25, to within a mile of Ashford.  The town's position makes it a springboard for some of Kent's best sights.  Cathedral city Canterbury is just a 20 minute drive away.  Leeds Castle, dubbed the 'lovliest castle in the world', is only a 25 minute drive.  Medieval Rye, with its smugglers' haunts is three quarters of an hour away, while Dover, with its remarkable castle and War Tunnels, is around 30 minutes by car.

Or sink into a seat and let the train do the work.  High Speed 1 services mean Ashford is a mere 38 minutes from London.  The town's direct rail services include those to Canterbury (20 minutes), Tonbridge (35 minutes) and Maidstone (30 minutes).  Days out at the seaside are quick and easy by train.  Head to Margate to marvel at the cutting-edge art on display at the Turner Contemporary.  A trip to Folkestone delivers inspiration in its buzzing Creative Quarter and re-vitalised harbour.  In charming Deal you can browse lanes full of independent stores.  In Whitstable sit in classy bistros to sample superb native Whitstable Oysters or munch through fish 'n' chips on the beach.  See how easy it is to get around at National Rail Enquiries.  Meanwhile, charismatic steam trains puff out of Tenterden and beside Romney Marsh.

Need to hire a bicycle when you get here?  Brompton Bike Hire at Ashford International Station is available 24/7, 365 days per year from fully automated docks.

Daily National Express services take just over two hours to travel from London to Ashford.  Locally, Stagecoach provides good connections between Ashford, Tenterden, Canterbury, Maidstone and Folkestone, or hop on a bus and head to delightful, seaside Hythe.  See Traveline for a comprehensive guide.

From this great slice of Great Britain, it's just a short hope across to the continent.  Eurostar trains speed out of the Ashford International Station - Paris, Brussels and Lille are all well within a two hour ride - you can even catch the train to Disneyland Paris too.

And it's just a 20 minute drive down the M20 from Ashford to the Eurotunnel terminal near Folkestone - 35 minutes later you and your car can be in France.  Meanwhile, Dover, with its cross-channel ferry links to Calais and Dunkirk, is a 30 minute drive away.
